Turning Consumer Feedback Into a Family-Focused Product Innovation

One Calm for the Whole Family.
The Opportunity
Sometimes the best product opportunities come directly from consumers.
Originally launched as Kids Calm, a melatonin-free calming gummy for children, the product began receiving feedback that parents were using it, too.
I recognized an opportunity to build on this consumer behavior and expand the product's positioning beyond its original audience. Rather than developing an entirely separate adult product, the strategy was to optimize the existing formula and relaunch it as a wellness solution designed for both kids and adults.
The Strategy
I led the product repositioning strategy, using consumer feedback to guide the evolution from a kids-only supplement to a family-focused offering.
Working cross-functionally, we made targeted adjustments to the formula to improve gummy texture and consistency while maintaining the product's melatonin-free positioning.
The strategy centered on three priorities:
1. Expand the Audience
Reposition the existing product to appeal to both children and adults, expanding its intended market.
2. Improve the Product Experience
Introduce targeted formula refinements to improve texture, consistency, and the overall consumer experience.
3. Simplify the Positioning
Develop clear, approachable messaging that communicated the product's expanded audience and family-friendly appeal.
Bringing It to Market
The product was relaunched as Calm for Kids & Adults™, supported by the positioning:
"One Calm for the Whole Family."
This messaging helped communicate the product's evolution while reinforcing the convenience of a single product designed for family use.
The relaunch connected product optimization, strategic positioning, refreshed consumer messaging, and go-to-market execution.
The Outcome
The relaunch evolved an existing kids-only supplement into a broader family-focused wellness offering, expanding its intended audience while improving the product experience.
By recognizing an opportunity in consumer feedback, we were able to extend the relevance of an established product through targeted innovation rather than developing an entirely new product.
Meaningful innovation doesn't always mean creating something entirely new. Sometimes it starts with listening to consumers and recognizing an opportunity to make an existing product more relevant.
